George Borsuk
- Trumpet and Vocals
-
George Does a lot of vocal work and plays trumpet in this group. Originally from the Great White North of Canada, George finds the weather in Florida just perfect (ie no snow!) George has a great grasp of the Polish language and adds to the flavor of the band with great Polish vocals and trumpet work that adds sizzle to the Honky sound these guys put out. Back in Canada, George had started playing with his brother's group, TANEW, which had the original Winiarz Clan in it. Then moving on and forming his own band The Brass Sounds. After moving to Florida he hooked up with Jan Cyman and the Musicalaires for a few years until Jan moved back up north. George has also filled in with Li'l Wally, Jeresey Polka Richie and Stephanie. George also plays Bass Guitar, Concertina, Fiddle and a little Accordion (no not a small one!)
Edie Blaire
- Drums and Vocals
- Edie puts down that toe tapping, finger snapping beat that makes FHPB come alive and make you want to dance 'til either the bar is dry or it's really late and you have to get up in the morning! Next time out, take a listen to Edie on some kick dupa vocals and great harmony vocals which just makes the whole night a fun and energy filled time!
Edie, originally from Rhode Island, has made Florida her home for a few years. Along with great musical talent, Edie has artistic abilities. Just look at our "Stasiu" under the palm tree. That's Edie's work. Not to mention designing some 15 polka album covers for TBC, Eddie Blazonzcyk's Versatones, Stas Golonka, Shamrocks, Ray Jay to name a few.
Then there was the stint of Polka DJ on WLVU AM co-hosting The Sunshine Polka Radio Show for 2 years before a format changed ending the show. (Where did you find the time?!)
Edie has played tubs for some of the best in the biz and the list is huge, here's just a few (this is the short list and it's long!): Edie has sat in either full time or filled in over the years with: Frank Gubala Orch from RI., The Happy Batchelor's from RI, Wesoly Bolek, RI, Jolly Rich Orchestra, Joe Paseika, Jersey Polka Richie, Stan Skawinski, Kryger Bros Orch, Jolly Joe and the Bavarians, The Pete Shalins Orchestra., Phil Lipka’s Nice'n Easy, The B Sharps, The Sunshine State Express Band, Nite Flite, and Jan Cyman's Musicaliares.
Jasiu Klocek
- Accordion & Vocals
- Jasiu gives the band a ton of rhythm playing a smoking squeeze box with that bellow shaking drive or those great harmony parts against the concertina. Jasiu originally from Syracuse, NY is a snow bird down here in the warm south (who can blame him for that?!) At age 7, Jasiu picked up the accordion and hasn't looked back since. For over 35 years Jasiu has had his own band, The Salt City Brass, and has filled in with a few bands to boot. Jasiu has worked his accordion magic with Enzian Bavarian Band from Syracuse, NY, The Musicaliares and Orlando Polka Magic. After a long vacation in Poland for five months Jasiu learned to speak Polish fluently! Jasiu also adds vocals and did all the piano parts for the album!
Rich Kurdziel
- Concertina and Vocals
- Wow! We Snagged a ringer! We'll get Rich to write something up, but we might have to add extras storage space to the server for all the bands Rich has played with!
Jim Sefcik
- Bass Guitar
- Jim pumps out the bass sound for the band. Playing both electric and upright (<<--hard to do! Really!) bass. Man the "Po staro krajsku" sets just would not sound the same without the upright! Jim also kicks in vocals and piano keyboard when we're out playing! Jim, originally from McDonald, OH, grew up in the middle of what some might call the biggest Polka sweet spot outside of the Chicago area: Cleveland-Youngstown-Pittsburgh area. Jim started early and at age 14, was already beginning to master the upright bass and other Tambura instruments. In Youngstown and Pittsburgh during the 70s it was the time period that Jim was exposed to Slovenian style polka music and what a natural he was at it. Jim got tired of the snow and moved to Florida in 1976 to pursue his career in civil engineering and specialized construction. After a 10 year hiatus, Jim had a desire to play Honky style polka and has been doing so since the late 1980s. Jim has played with various Florida polka bands including Bee Sharps, Orlando Polka Magic, Jan Cyman & The Musicaliares and Jersey Polka Richie. He can also be spotted on stage gigin' with the likes of Walter Ostanek, Mahoning Valley Button Box Band, Lenny Gomulka and Stephanie. Besides playing with us these days, you can also see Jim playing occasionally on upright bass at Norwegian Village in Disney World's Epcot Center. (Hey didn't you see him on the Mickey Mouse Club?)
